  • Chen Yushi:Keep calm and carry on

    Release time: 2020-11-17

My name is Yushi Chen and I am from the Energy and Power Engineering Department of Beijing University of Science and Technology. With excellent academic performance during the undergraduate period, I have obtained the school's recommendation for a master's degree without a test. I also performed well in various activities and won many honors such as national inspirational scholarships, outstanding three-level students, and outstanding student cadres at the school level. In addition, I has my own attempts in the field of competition and scientific research.

In the first five semesters of the university, I took 60 courses, with a grade of 6/103. During the freshman and sophomore years, I mainly studied basic courses such as advanced mathematics, college physics, physical chemistry and so on. In the third year, I studied engineering fluid mechanics (92), engineering thermodynamics (90), heat transfer (94), and combustion (90) and other basic professional courses. These courses made me deeply understand the basic professional knowledge that a power engineering and engineering thermophysicist must have. And laid a solid foundation for my further research in the active direction. CET 4 and 6 have all been passed, and I have good English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation skills.

In academic research, when I was in my sophomore year, I led a team to participate in the "Industrial Energy Demand Forecast Model Based on Artificial Intelligence" undergraduate research and innovation program. My main job was to use MATLAB to build ARIMA time series and BP neural network prediction models for steel companies. The two largest links in the oxygen system—the blast furnace ironmaking and the converter steelmaking—predict and analyze the total oxygen consumption. In addition, I published the paper "A three-bed six-step TSA cycle with heat carrier gas recycling and its model-based performance assessment for gas drying" in the journal "Separation and Purification Technology" in November 2019 as the second author; Published "Performance of a novel-type of heat flue in a coke oven based on high-temperature and low-oxygen diffusion combustion technology" in the journal "Fuel" as three works, and as a work in March 2020 as the third author. And in March 2020, as the first author, "Research on One-Dimensional Compressible Unsteady Flow Model of High Pressure Oil Pipe" was accepted by the journal "International Journal of Mathematical Modeling and Application". During the in-depth academic research process, I cultivated scientific literacy and hands-on innovation ability, and was proficient in MATLAB, Fluent, CAD and other software.

My experience in scientific research competitions is also very rich, from the municipal second prize in the physics competition and the national third prize in the math competition and other discipline competitions, to the national second prize of the National University Mathematical Modeling Competition, the national third prize of the Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Contest, and other fields of science and technology competition are involved. In the discipline competition, I further strengthened my knowledge reserve of mathematical physics. And I learned the spirit of teamwork and scientific and technological innovation in the science and technology competition, from the Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Contest (a Stirling machine-based air-conditioning waste cold and waste heat utilization device) as the team member's lead to complete the writing of the paper, to the national college student mathematical modeling competition (high-pressure tubing one-dimensional compressible unsteady flow model research), the United States Undergraduate mathematical modeling contests (using the time series ARIMA model to dynamically predict the impact of ocean temperature changes on Scottish fisheries) as team captain learned and completed algorithms, papers, programming, etc., gradually improving my ability of self-expression and ability innovation.

In addition, my physical fitness is excellent, my sports performances are all 97+. Love public welfare, 225 volunteer working hours. And in my spare time, I served as the lecturer and team leader of the college physics of the school's lecturer group; as the dormitory director, I was honored as the "model leader dormitory" and so on.
