Tang Tian:The more effort, the luckier
Her name is Tang Tian, from Hunan province she was born in January 2000. She is a student at the School of Energy and Environmental Engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing grade 2017 majoring in Environmental Engineering.
When it comes to her course learning, over the past three years, she studied so diligently and built up a solid foundation of professional knowledge. Presently, her rank is a second out of 109 students in her grade and she was granted scholarships every year, including the National scholarship and the Environmental scholarship. After three years of hard work and comprehensive development, she has successfully applied for a postgraduate in Peking University to directly study for a PhD.
In addition to the course study, she never forgets to improve herself in her spare time. In terms of computers, she can use office skillfully and won the third prize in the Office Competition, besides this, she can also operate Auto-CAD, Origin, and Endnote. Regarding her English proficiency, she passed the CET4 and CET6. Under the guidance of her professor, she wrote an English conference paper on the study of technologies of decentralized black water treatment and resource utilization, with three peers as the third author. Moreover, she received eight school level awards and three national-level awards in the subject foundation and professional competitions.
Since her freshman year, she has started to involve herself in scientific research to gain experience. She participated in the research project about the heavy metal exposure of rice. She does the job of collecting rice and questionnaires in Hunan Province and measuring heavy metal content with ICP-MS in the Environmental Monitoring Station. She was finally named as an excellent investigator for her outstanding performance.
In her sophomore year, she aimed to work at the shortcomings of SCR with ammonia as a reducing agent and she successfully applied for a one-year school-level research project with two peers. Their main goal was to find a catalytic material that can efficiently remove NO and CO together. She participated in the whole process from establishing the project till designing the experiment, preparing the catalyst by the co-precipitation method, evaluating the catalyst activity, sample characterization, analyzing the experimental data, and writing the final report as well. As a result, she got complete and systematic scientific research training.
In the junior year, due to her interest in solid waste resource utilization, she communicated actively with professor Wang and started to do successful laboratory experiments that can assist her with her projects. She also invited professor Wang to participate in the energy conservation and emission reduction competition as an instructor. She led the members of her group to read a lot of literature and also organized more than 50 group meetings as the team leader. In the end, her team proposed seven novel and practical energy-saving and emission-reduction schemes, and six were awarded. Among them, they used the principle of the spin flash dryer and combustion chamber ignited downward to design a device, which can quickly handle a kitchen waste on-site so that it will be suitable for the dining hall and can solve the problem of high waste production, high transportation cost, and high pressure of terminal treatment under the garbage classification policy. During the epidemic, in the case of inconvenient communication and operation as a team leader, she led teammates to overcome all difficulties, completed experimental verification and device production, and won the national first prize.
The device innovatively proposes a spin flash drying process to obtain solid fuel. It has the advantages of fuel self-sufficiency, heat cascade utilization, and low-temperature rapid drying. It can be used for on-site reduction and resource utilization of restaurants. The device can be popularized in the treatment of organic waste such as sludge and bacterial residue. We can obtain fuel with low water content rapidly and can also be used as a feed for animals. She applied for a utility model patent with the first inventor and an invention patent with the second inventor. The project successfully helped all members of her team to get the offer of their dream school.
She has also done a lot of work as a student, she was the vice-chairman of the college student union and the freshman class teacher. During the two and a half years of her tenure in the Propaganda Department, she has completed more than 100 exquisite WeChat posts, actively participated in the editing of videos, carried out more than 40 event photo shoots, and designed a cartoon image tailored to the college. At the same time, she is the main operator of the college's official public account SEEE and assisted the college in posting more than 200 times showing the college style with propaganda skills.
As a reserve party member during the epidemic period, she organized the Propaganda Department to complete 34 WeChat posts, fighting for the fight against the epidemic, publicizing epidemic prevention knowledge, etc. Besides, she actively signed up for the Hubei temporary liaison officer, one-on-one to accompany the Hubei classmates in psychological and academic aspects to overcome difficulties as soon as possible and contribute to the fight against the epidemic.
During her tenure as the freshman class teacher, she organized the files of 61 freshmen, answered questions for freshmen more than 100 in private, communicated with students regularly, and supervised the study, and lectures totaled more than 60 times. After her enrollment, she organized 5 class meetings, conducted 3 experience sharing meetings, and prepared small gifts for everyone during the holidays. She won the gratitude and recognition from the younger students. The class she led was ranked eighth from nine classes at the beginning, but progressed to third at the end of the expiration date and won a 50% scholarship coverage rate a total bonus of more than 30,000 yuan.
She loves her major and she likes to serve others. She said in the future she will follow her interest and use her knowledge to contribute to the ecological civilization of the motherland.
