Jiang Binfan:The most fortunate is to grow up in USTB all the way
Jiang Binfan is an undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral student at the University of Science and Technology Beijing(USTB). She was enrolled as an undergraduate in 2011 and has spent nearly 10 years at USTB. She is a Ph.D. student in 2016, majoring in Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics. Her doctoral topic is "PM2.5 formation Mechanism in China's air Combined Pollution Environment". She has participated in two national key research and development projects of "Efficient storage and graded extraction process of waste heat from solid bulk materials" and "Efficient calcining kiln with heat carrier cycle and resource recovery of product gas".
Undergraduate: participated in scientific and technological innovation, and tried out crazily on the edge of scientific research
During her undergraduate years, she gradually developed a strong interest in technological innovation and scientific research. Especially after her junior year, she took part in almost all scientific and technological innovation activities related to her major in the school, such as SRTP, Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Competition, Cradle Cup and Challenge Cup. During that time, she was on the way to buy materials and do experiments every day.
Among them, what impressed her most and had the greatest impact on her was her experience in the Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Competition (National College Students Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Science and Technology Competition). There were seven people in her team. Their entry was titled "Energy Efficient Household vacuum Dryer." Through continuous improvement of the device and their own efforts, after more than half a year, they finally won the first prize in the national competition.
During her undergraduate years, she received many honors. She participated in the 7th National College Students' Social Practice and Science and Technology Competition on Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction, and won the first prize. She participated in the "Creating youth" Capital college students entrepreneurship competition and won the bronze prize. She has served as a volunteer for the 60th anniversary of USTB and the 9th China International Garden Expo. She also served as deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Communist Youth League and minister of the Student Union of The School of Mechanics of USTB. She has been awarded "Advanced Individual of Summer Social Practice for University Students in Beijing", " Beijing Excellent Student Cadre " and "Outstanding Graduate of USTB".
Graduate: Overseas exchange to cultivate an international perspective
During her postgraduate period, she went to the University of Birmingham (Birmingham Energy Storage Center) for joint cultivation, mainly engaged in the preparation and characterization of composite phase change energy storage materials. Her joint foreign mentor is Professor Ding Yulong, director of the Birmingham Energy Storage Centre. During the six months studying in Birmingham Energy Storage Center, she had the opportunity to learn from Professor Ding and communicate with experts and scholars in the field of energy storage face to face. In addition, she entered the laboratory to conduct relevant experiments and researches. With the complete experimental equipment and platform of The University of Birmingham, she completed a number of experimental studies, which greatly promoted the research progress of her subject. In addition, during her study in Birmingham, she also participated in a large number of academic lectures, which greatly promoted her personal ability and vision.
Likewise, during her postgraduate years, she also received a lot of honors. She was awarded the " Top Ten Academic Star of USTB Award " and the national Scholarship for doctoral and postgraduate students. She has participated in five international academic conferences, served as the chairperson of the sub-conference venue once, won prizes for her thesis once, and was elected to the Scientific Committee of The Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems. She also participated in two national key research and development projects and one compilation of national standard. She has applied for 4 invention patents as the first author, and has authorized 1. As the first author, she has published 9 SCI papers, including 8 SCI journals in the first and second regions, and 1 SCI paper as the total impact factor > 40.
"USTB is a place where time condenses into a dream," she says. "It took me ten years to grow up with me and let me go from being young to being mature. Going to college and getting a PhD have been the right choices in my life so far."
