QS global education group released the 10th World University Discipline ranking on March 3rd, 2020. This ranking covers 5 subject groups and 48 disciplines and evaluates 1368 universities in 83 countries and regions around the world. There are 10 disciplines in our university that have entered the world top 500, of which environmental science has entered the list for the first time and ranked the Top 300.

Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (DESE) is focusing on higher education and research in the field of Environmental Science and Engineering, founded in 1996. Former Institute of IESE was established in 1952 as apartment of beneficiation. Now, it has one first-level discipline doctor's degree and one first-level discipline master's degree, owning Beijing Key Laboratory of Resource-oriented Treatment of Industrial Typical Pollutants and Beijing International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of Resource-oriented Treatment of Municipal and Domestic Pollutants ", National Environment and Energy International Science and Technology Cooperation Base, Beijing Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Beijing Off-campus Talent Training Base and Environment and Energy Conservation Engineering Research Center. It was approved as "national characteristic specialty construction site" in 2011 and won the key disciplines of environmental engineering in Beijing in 2012, ranking 21st in the same year (82 participating universities). It passed the national engineering education professional certification in 2014 and passed the "211 Project" and the construction of key disciplines in Beijing. In 2019, it entered the top 1% of ESI global disciplines ranking and was selected as the national first-class undergraduate professional construction site. A domestically first-class environmental science and engineering discipline system with important international academic influence has been initially formed, which plays an important role in the national environmental development strategy.
