The 2019 Science and Technology Annual Meeting of Chinese Society for Environmental Science was held in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province on August 23. Huang Runqiu, vice minister of the Ministry of Ecological Environment and president of the Chinese Society for Environmental Science attended the opening ceremony of the annual meeting and made an important speech. The awarding ceremony of excellent graduation design (thesis) of National Undergraduate Majoring in environment in 2019 was held in the meeting. The graduation project “Study on the influence of environmental risk factors on children's respiratory health in Wuhan” wrote by Meng Xin, an undergraduate of Environmental Science and Engineering, who was directed by Professor Duan Xiaoli and Dr. Cao Suzhen from the School of Energy and Environmental Engineering of USTB won the "Excellent Graduation Design (Thesis) of National Undergraduate Majoring in Environment in 2019".

This selection activity is jointly organized by the Teaching Steering Committee of Environmental Science and Engineering major of the Ministry of Education and Chinese Society for Environmental Science. It is open to the majors of environmental science and engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, environmental ecological engineering, environmental protection equipment engineering, resources and environmental science, water quality science and technology, etc. Each professional point of each school recommends and applies for one of the 2019 graduates' graduation design (thesis). There were 161 works from Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Tongji University, Harbin University of Technology and other universities participated in the evaluation. After preliminary and reevaluation by experts, 35 excellent graduation theses and 19 excellent graduation projects were finally selected. This is the first time that student from USTB won the award.

In recent years, USTB has thoroughly implemented the spirit of the national conference on undergraduate education in the new era of the Ministry of Education, adhered to the principle of "people-oriented", promoted the "four regressions", accelerated the construction of high-level undergraduate education and comprehensively improved personnel training capacity. The academic administration attaches great importance to undergraduate education, constantly strengthens the guidance of tutors to students and strictly requires the quality of graduation design (thesis). This award is a full affirmation of the quality of graduation design (thesis) of environmental specialty. It will also encourage the students of USTB to continuously improve the quality of graduation design (thesis) and promote our school to comprehensively improve the quality of applied talents training.
