  • "The 10th China-Japan Joint Conference on Material Recycling and Waste Management" was successfully held in our school

    “The 10th China-Japan Joint Conference on Material Recycling and Waste Management (CJJC 2019)” was successfully held in our school from August 23 to August 26, which was organized by University of Science and Technology Beijing and Kyushu University, co-organized by Tsinghua University, Beijing Forestry University, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences and Shougang Environment Industry Co., Ltd. About 30 representatives from 11 universities and enterprises in Japan, and more than 190 representatives from 38 universities, research institutes and enterprises in China attended the conference. Prof. Zhaoping LU who is the vice president of University of Science and Technology Beijing, Prof. Hualong HU who is the deputy director of the Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Technology Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the director of the Solid Waste Branch of the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences, Director Feng Qiang from the International Office of University of Science and Technology Beijing, Prof. Yi XING who is the dean of the School of Energy and Environmental Engineering in our university, Party branch secretary Chunyang DONG from the School of Energy and Environmental Engineering in our university attended the opening ceremony. Prof. Qunhui WANG from the Department of Environmental Engineering presided over the opening ceremony.

    Vice President Zhaoping LU delivered a speech on behalf of the school. He warmly welcomed the scholars and introduced the general situation of the school. He mentioned that the University of Science and Technology Beijing is known as the "cradle of steel" and has trained a large number of management and technical personnel for the heavy industry such as metallurgy and mining. In the field of solid waste research, especially in the processing and recycling of iron and steel metallurgical industry waste, mining waste, urban organic waste and rural waste, our school has made remarkable scientific achievements.

    Director Hualong HU, on behalf of the Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Technology Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Solid Waste Branch of the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences, congratulated the “The 10th China-Japan Joint Conference on Material Recycling and Waste Management” successfully held at the University of Science and Technology Beijing. He said that China and Japan are close to each other and friendly exchanges are frequent. He hopes that this conference  could play a positive role to implement the ecological civilization thought of General Secretary Jinping XI, continue to promote the construction of "municipal waste classification" and "wasteless city", strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Japanese solid waste experts, and improve the environment on which humanity depends.

    Prof. Takayuki SHIMAOKA of Kyushu University, who is the president of the Japan Waste Association, introduced the history of the China-Japan Joint Conference on Material Recycling and Waste Management. Since 2009, the conference has successfully held 9 sessions in Fukuoka, Chengdu, Kagoshima, Chongqing, Hokkaido, Qingdao, Okinawa, Hangzhou and Kyoto. He said that global environmental problems such as greenhouse gases and micro-plastic pollution cannot be solved by one country's efforts. He hoped that experts from China and Japan would strengthen exchanges, deepen understanding and further promote international cooperation in the field of solid waste through this conference.

    39 experts gave keynote speeches and academic reports and 32 students gave academic speeches. Among them, 11 students won the “Outstanding Paper Award” and “Outstanding Poster Display Award”.

    On August 26, some participants visited the Miyun Green Circular Economy Industrial Park (including domestic waste incineration facilities, food waste and feces treatment facilities, leachate and sewage treatment facilities, slag and fly ash landfills, etc.)

    The China-Japan Joint Conference on Material Recycling and Waste Management has established a platform for communication and cooperation between Chinese and Japanese experts and scholars in the field of solid waste. The conference provided important exchange opportunities for promoting the research work of Chinese scholars in this field and learning from Japan's mature technology and experience. The conference also made positive contributions to increasing friendly exchanges between the two countries and promoting innovation and development in the field of solid waste treatment and recycling.
