Summer Course of Application of Hydrodynamics in Pipe Flow for Oil and Gas Wells
In order to improve students' English skills, to promote students to learn more about the hydrodynamics, and to teach students how to work and think as an engineer, the school of Energy and Environment, University of Science and Technology Beijing organizes a summer course on the topic of application of hydrodynamics in pipe flow for oil and gas wells. For this course, Prof. Ding Zhu, from Texas A&M University is invited to give lectures.
This course focuses on the application of Bernoulli equation for pressure- flow rate relationship in a pipe flow. The application is to wellbores that are used to produce oil and gas. Each terms in the Bernoulli equation, potential, friction, kinetic and shift work, will be discussed separately on the significance in pressure estimate at the bottom of the well condition. The application of vertical and horizontal wells will also be covered in the class.
The students are expected to know the Bernoulli equation before the class, and be able to run calculation with excel program developed during the class. The class is aimed for the students to understand the importance of Bernoulli equation when practice as an engineer. There will be daily homework. The course starts with an assessment test, and ends with a final exam.
Through this summer course, it not only promotes students to have a deeper understanding of hydrodynamics, but also broadens students’ vision to global energy issues. At the same time, it can also promote international teaching and academic exchanges, laying a good foundation for improving our school's teaching practice and the construction of disciplines.
